In Brazil, 30% of new businesses break down in the first two years of operation.
Some of the reasons are pretty obvious. According to a survey conducted by Sebrae-SP in 2014, the three main culprits of the high mortality of Brazilian companies are the lack of customers, high tax burden and lack of working capital.
But one of the reasons at the top of the list of reasons is ignored by many who are in the process of starting their own business: the wrong choice of a business partner.
And why is the entrepreneur wrong in choosing partners? Most of all, because you choose a partner who is similar to him.
It is always more convenient and tempting to live with a person who acts in the same way as ours, and who always agrees with our opinion. But it could be a shot in the foot.
Think of the two Steves who founded Apple: Jobs and Wozniak. The bold vacancies focused on strategy, product concepts and sales; the humble Wozniak was brilliant in operational and technical competence. That is, they had additional skills and shared their tasks in the company in the style of “one does, the other sells”.

One of the most effective ways is through Myers-Briggs Typology.
The famous psychiatrist Carl Jun began to study in the mid-1920s various traits of the human personality. His approach believed that human behavior is not accidental, but predictable and classified.
Ten years later, British Catherine Cooke Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers reviewed and expanded the Jungian research mentioned in the previous paragraph, designing the Myers-Briggs Typology – an array that identifies 16 personality types that every person on this planet can cultivate. Since the 1990s, the model has become the most commonly used in the world for personality tracking.
According to this system, our personality is formed by four a formations that describe how we carry our energy, how we process the information we receive, How we make decisions And how we see our lives.
In each of these axes there are two poles that represent our preferences in relation to this type of behavior. We don’t necessarily act fixed and rigidly within the axis (we can swim between one pole and the other throughout life, or even keep us close to the center), but we tend to prefer one side. And it is these preferences that shape our personality.
On the axis how we carry our energyThere are poles Extraversion And Introversion. Extroverted people recharge their inner energy through contact with other people, while introverted people feel refreshed by spending time alone.
Note that a closed person is not necessarily shy, because shyness is associated with insecurity in communication with people, and not with how energy is restored (a person can be sociable and at the same time withdrawn, feeling the need to spend some time alone after long contact with other people).
On the axis cwe’re dealing with the information we’ve received, we have poles Feeling And Intuition. Sensory people approach the information they receive literally: they cling to facts and details and like to focus here and now. Who intuitively, on the other hand, approaches the information obtained in a figurative sense, is not attentive to details and prefers to extract the general concept, The big picture things, in addition to finding a relationship between them.
The great analogy to differentiate these two preferences is this: who identifies with the pole sensation looks at the picture and sees many trees; who identifies with the pole of intuition looks at the same picture and sees the forest.
On the axis How we make decisionsHave Reason And Emotions. Rational people use logical data and arguments to make decisions in their lives, while emotional people rely on how they feel to make the same decisions.
Imagine a scenario in which an employee asks a boss on a day off to visit an elderly relativewho is sick. Rational boss will give a day off because he thought his subordinate’s performance would fall if he did not visit a relative; emotional boss will give a day off, realizing the position of his employee and show that the company appreciates him.
Finally, on the axis how we see our lives There are poles Court And Perception. Who is subjective, loves plans, goals and order; those who are astute prefer to leave their options open and like flexibility.
Astute people tend to get information rather than draw conclusions about it; while judges like to draw conclusions and make decisions about things and avoid getting new information – especially if they can change their initial decisions.

The goal of choosing a partner that differs from you based on Myers-Briggs typology is to merge skills, and even different business visions, so that the strengths of one offset the weaknesses of others – and also to avoid making wrong decisions caused by the eventual myopia of some partners (who thinks he has the “right view”). The other partner will always be there to at least offer a different perspective.
